Don Heck's artwork for Iron Man's first appearance in Tales of Suspense #39

Don Heck’s original artwork from page 1 of Tales of Suspense No. 39 from March 1963 in which Iron Man makes his debut will go under the hammer at Heritage Auctions in its July 9-12 Comic Art and Comic Books auctions.

Other highlights include:

  • original cover art by John Byrne and Terry Austin for Secret Wars II No. 1 from 1985
  • two copies of Action Comics No. 1
  • proposals by Superman co-creator Joe Shuster for a series of Superman educational comics teaching subjects such as astronomy, history, and geography
  • a complete 13-page set of preliminary drawings for The Molten World story in Superman No. 43
  • original cover art for the debut of Marvel’s Captain Britain for Captain Britain No. 1 by Larry Lieber, Stan Lee’s brother

“Original artwork from the first appearance story of one of the truly major characters seldom comes up for sale,” said Heritage Auctions Vice President Barry Sandoval.
